Connect Novacut to an AI app that supports MCP, such as Claude, Codex, Gemini CLI or Cursor, and it can open your projects, edit them, render them and start new edits from your footage. You sign in to Novacut in your browser; there is nothing to install and no key to copy.

## Your Novacut server address

```
https://api.novacut.ai/api/mcp
```

## Add it to your app

**Claude Code**

1. Run `claude mcp add --transport http novacut https://api.novacut.ai/api/mcp`.
2. In Claude Code, type `/mcp`, choose **novacut** and pick **Authenticate**.

**Claude app (web or desktop)**

1. Open **Settings › Connectors** and click **Add custom connector**.
2. Name it `Novacut`, paste the server address and click **Add**.
3. Click **Connect** next to Novacut.

**Codex**

1. Run `codex mcp add novacut --url https://api.novacut.ai/api/mcp`.
2. Run `codex mcp login novacut`.

**Gemini CLI**

1. Run `gemini mcp add --transport http novacut https://api.novacut.ai/api/mcp`.
2. In Gemini CLI, type `/mcp auth novacut`.

**Cursor**

1. Open **Settings › MCP** and add a new server.
2. Use `{"mcpServers": {"novacut": {"url": "https://api.novacut.ai/api/mcp"}}}` and click **Login** when Cursor asks.

Any other app that can add a remote MCP server with sign-in works the same way: give it the server address.

## Sign in and allow access

1. Your browser opens a Novacut page. Sign in if you are asked to.
2. Check the app's name and the account you are signed in to, then click **Allow**.
3. The browser hands you back to your app, which is now connected.

If you create a new Novacut account on the way, confirm your email first, then connect again from your app.

## What you can ask for

- "List my Novacut projects and open the podcast one."
- "Cut the long pauses, add captions and render a 1080p MP4."
- "Upload the videos in ~/Footage/trip and make a 60-second highlight reel."

The app's own AI makes the edit with the same editing tools as the chat in Novacut, starting as soon as your footage is uploaded, and every change shows up in the editor. Open the project in Novacut to watch the edit or fine-tune it by hand.

## Uploading footage

Apps that can run commands on your computer (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor) can upload videos, audio and images straight from your disk. The Claude app on the web can't reach your files, so upload footage in Novacut first and then ask it to edit those projects.

## Usage

Uploads, renders and other work the app starts use your Novacut plan, exactly as they do in Novacut. Ask the app for your balance at any time. The AI app's own messages count toward your plan with that app, not with Novacut.

## Disconnect

Remove Novacut from the app (for example `claude mcp remove novacut`, or **Remove** in the Claude app's connectors). To cut off every copy of an app's access, open **Account** in Novacut and click **Disconnect** next to it under **Connected apps**.

## Troubleshooting

- **The browser says the request expired**: a sign-in request lasts ten minutes. Connect again from your app.
- **You signed in to the wrong account**: on the Allow page, click **Use a different account**.
- **The app says it isn't signed in**: disconnect it as above and connect again.
