Start here: how Novacut works

The whole workflow in one page: upload footage, get a first cut, revise it in chat and export.

Getting started · 1/8

Novacut is an AI video editor that runs in your browser. You upload raw footage and describe the video you want. Novacut watches and listens to every clip and builds an editable first cut. You then refine it by chatting or by editing the timeline yourself, and export an MP4 or a project file for another editor.

These first pages walk through that whole workflow in order. Each one ends with a Next link, so you can read straight through.

Before you start

  • Use a computer with Chrome, Edge or Brave. The editor plays your edit with WebCodecs, which Safari, Firefox and phone browsers don't support yet.
  • Start your free trial. Click Start free on the home page. The trial lasts 7 days, includes every feature and needs no credit card. See Free trial, plans and usage.
  • Gather your footage. Novacut works with video, audio and images, from a few phone clips to hours of recordings. See supported files.

The workflow

  1. Make a first cut. Upload your clips, describe the video and send. Novacut builds the edit while you watch. How to create a first cut
  2. Describe what you want. A clear prompt with the format, length and must-keep moments gives a better first cut. How to write a good edit prompt
  3. Find your way around. The editor has a tool rail, a preview, a timeline and a chat. Tour of the editor
  4. Revise in chat. Ask for changes in plain language, such as "shorter intro" or "warmer colors". How to revise an edit with chat
  5. Undo anything. Every change, from chat or by hand, can be undone. How to undo and redo changes
  6. Export. Render an MP4 for YouTube, Shorts, Reels or TikTok, or download a project file for Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro. How to render and download an MP4
  7. Keep your work organized. Open, rename and delete projects from My Projects. How to manage your projects
