How to manage your projects

Find, open, rename and delete projects, and restore the demo project.

Getting started · 8/8

Every edit you make is a project. My Projects lists them all, and each one keeps its timeline, chat and exports.

Find a project

  1. Click My Projects at the top of the page, or the Novacut logo.
  2. Each project shows its thumbnail, name and creation date.
  3. Use the buttons beside the My Projects heading to switch between the list and thumbnail views.
  4. Click a project to open it in the editor.

Start a new project

Click New Project at the top of any page. You can use new uploads, footage already in your library, or both. See How to create a first cut.

Rename a project

  1. Open the project.
  2. Click the pencil next to the project name at the top left.
  3. Type the new name and press Enter, or click anywhere else. Press Escape to keep the old name.

Novacut names a project itself while it makes the first cut, so you can rename it once the cut is ready.

Delete a project

  1. Open the project.
  2. Open Advanced Project Settings, the last tool in the rail on the left.
  3. Under Danger Zone, click Delete Project and confirm.

Deleting a project permanently removes its edit history, versions and exports. Your uploaded footage stays in your library, so you can use it in other projects. If an export or other job is still running, finish or cancel it first.

The demo project

New accounts include a sample project, marked Demo, below your own projects, so you can try the editor before uploading anything.

  • Edit it as you like. New changes count toward your usage, just like your own projects.
  • If you delete it, click Restore Demo Project on My Projects to get a fresh copy.
  • Click the × on the Sample Project card to hide it.
